Overview:
Treo 600 is equipped with a 3-pole 2.5mm stereo audio jack combined with a headset
jack for phone use.
It is unconventional
and questionable about the intelligence of the design. As a result it is very
difficult (if not impossible) to design a combined stereo headphone/headset with
mic that all other PDA/Phones have.
It
is an essential accessory for such PDA/Phone and Handspring does not even make
one !!
We have made this possible with a mode switch. This is what
happens when it is switched in different modes:
Audio
Mode:
Stereo sound plays through stereo headphone jack (with headphone
attached). Answer/End button does not function in this mode.
When there is
incoming call (Music stop/pause and you hear phone rings with specified ringtone
through the headphone), you have to press the answer icon on the phone and speak
through the phone mic. (or switch to Headset Mode)
Note:
The phone determines whether to output audio through the phone speaker or headphone
by detecting the headphone impedance. If no headphone is attached to the adapter,
audio will play through the phone speaker. For the same principle, if the volume
is turned right down to zero, thus no headphone impedance is detected, audio will
play through the phone speaker. This also happens to some Hi-Fi speakers with
low impedance. Any inline amplified headphone will probaly revert it to output
through the phone speaker (i.e. will not work).
Headset
Mode:
Audio (MP3) plays through the phone
speaker in this mode. Phone audio plays through headset (whether headphone is
attached to the adapter).
Answer/End button and Mic work as ordinary
headset. Phone audio plays through both ears (if you are using stereo headphone)
so you can use either ear for phone use.
If you have been listening to music
in Audio Mode and there is incoming call, switch to Headset Mode (The phone
continues to ring momentarily through the phone speaker until answer button is
pressed) and press the Answer button to answer call. Switch back to Audio
Mode after you finish the call. (you have to re-start Audio Player. Pocket Tunes
pause when there is incoming call. Other audio players may vary).
Please appreciate that because of the design, very thin wires can only be used so it is a delicate piece of hardware. Use/handle with care for it to last.
To buy TR6AA please see Treo Page.
Tips:
You can
also connect it to your home Hi-Fi, and Car Hi-Fi with auxiliary input.
Cable/adapters
can easily be found in your local Hi-Fi shop.
We have a retractable 3.5mm
plug>3.5mm plug (SP33R)
for this purpose. It is more expensive than your Hi-Fi shop black one but it is
neater. We only made a limited quantity specially for this.
If you make/receive
calls while connecting to external Hi-Fi, the other party will hear his/her own
echo so you have to turn down the volume (conveniently controlled via the adapter,
it is not necessary to access the Hi-Fi control).
The
retractable mechanism may lose its tension slightly in time. It is recommended
that you retract it fully when not in use in order to preserve the retractable
tension.
